Basic Site Setup In Dreamweaver I  

How to set up a new test website in Dreamweaver with no connection:

Define the Name and URL of the new website:

  • In the main menu go to Site > New Site.
  • Then in the "Site Definition for Unnamed Site" window select the "Basic" tab.
  • Type the common name of your site in the "What would you like to name your site?" text field.
  • Then enter the URL address of your website into the "What is the HTTP Address (URL) of your site?" text field.
  • Press the "Next" button.

Set up the server:

  • Make sure "No, I do not want to use server technology" option is selected then press the "Next" button.
  • Select the option "Edit local copies on my machine then upload to server when ready".
  • Then navigate to and select the file "my new website" on the desktop in the "Where on your computer do you want to store your files?" field.
  • Press the "Next" button.

Set up the remote server connection:

  • In the "How do you connect to the remote server?" field select "None" from the drop down menu
  • Enter the IP address and the path to the folder where you want to save the remote site e.g.
  • Make sure the "No, do not enable check in an check out." option is selected and press the "Next" button.
  • Check to see if your settings are correct then press the "Done" button.
 

Note: The common name for your website is just a reference for the site so that you can distinguish it from other sites you may have. It has nothing to do with the address of the site or how it will appear when on the web.
